Classical schools offer hypnosis as the most effective tool to resolve phobias in one session. The problem is that not everyone can be hypnotized. From Neuroscience emerged other alternatives:

  1. 1. Desensitize (anaesthetize) the affective charge of the phobic object through sensory techniques such as Brief Multi-Sensory Activation (BMSA), developed by Dr. Joaquín Andrade (Uruguay), Dr. Maarten Aalberse (France) and Dr. Christine Sutherland (Australia) and the Sweeping Technique that belongs to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro. The first acts as a sensory shock that confuses the thalamus and the cerebral amygdala while evoking to the phobic object. The second does it through directed straight eye movement. Neither reveals the origin of the symptom.
  2. 2. Reprocess the phobia through bilateral stimulation proposed by EMDR. This method assigns the suffering to the linked information to the phobia is registered in just one of the cerebral hemispheres. By sensory stimulating both hemispheres, phobia is reprocessed and resolved. This option allows finding the origin of the disorder.

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) developed by Gary Craig, as a fast and effective option. It acts by stimulating acupressure points through tapping with the fingertips while the image and the feeling of terror or panic caused by the phobic object, are evoked. In this way, thought coordinates the image of the object, with the somatic sensation and with the emotion. This procedure balances three areas involved in the symptom, the somatic, the cognitive and the emotional, freeing up the effect of the phobic object. This procedure can spontaneously lead to the origin of the phobia.

Additionally, Multilevel Tone Calibration – Symptom and Trauma Management (MTC-STM) suggest also strengthening the three areas to avoid new phobic installation.
